Welcome to Alpacas at Lone Ranch
We are full time alpaca ranchers located in Southern Oregon since 2002. Alpacas at Lone Ranch is conveniently located between Eagle Point and Shady Cove, 4.5 miles west on Oregon’s Scenic Byway 234 in the beautiful Upper Rogue Valley, close to historic Jacksonville, the cultural treasure of Ashland, and the unsurpassed beauty of Crater Lake.
in 2022, for the first time, we did not rebreed our females. It rained on shearing day - May 6 - and the day before. Therefore, we cancelled shearing and the new date was May 19. We generally breed after shearing, but decided against it because we didn't want our females having to go through many hot summer days towards the end of their pregnancy. Weather being agreeable this year, we sheared May 17. Because alpaca is a hollow fiber that traps the heat, it is important to get the alpacas' fleece off before it's 100 degrees.
Whether you are just curious about alpacas or are already a breeder, call us or e-mail, to find out how we can help you succeed in the alpaca business.
If you don't want to be in the breeding business but are a fiber enthusiast, or just want a few handsome guys or girls on your property - we have fiber boys and girls packages, soon to be listed here. Alpacas are herd animals, so you need at least two of the same sex, three is better.
Visitors are welcome most days, including holidays - as long as we are at the ranch. Please call first to avoid disappointment at the locked gate: 541-821-8071. During the hot summer, we give tours at 10 AM only. Starting in October, tours are also available at 1:30 PM.
